Selecting DNA sequence is an important step to access varied analyses and tools in the Sequence Viewer. For example you cannot mark retriction sites on an unselected sequence but doing Ctrl-A on the keyboard to select the entire sequence followed by pressing the Restriction Enzyme button will mark all sites successfully.
Sequence selection using the mouse
• Selection by drag: Left-click the mouse anywhere in the DNA sequence and drag the cursor to select the sequence underneath. As you move, the length, %GC content and Tm for PCR of the selection is updated in the Properties window while start position, end postion, length and translation on both ends are highlited in the status bar at the bottom. Release the left mouse button to complete the desired selection.
• Double-left click: On the DNA sequence to select by corresponding color area or non-color area; double-click on other colored areas while pressing down the Shift key to expand the selection.
• Triple-left click: On the DNA sequence to select the entire sequence.
Sequence selection using keyboard shortcuts
• Ctrl-A: This shortcut will select the entire sequence.
• Selection using the arrow keys: While pressing the Shift key down use any of the four arrows on the keyboard to adjust the selection.
Selection of feature sequence
• Double-left click on a feature: While pressing the Ctrl key down will select the corresponding DNA sequence.
• Feature Navigator: Open the Navigator window and select a feature. Now Right-click on that feature to open the popup window and select the menu option "Select in Viewer" to select the corresponding sequence in the viewer.
